Invitation to the 2nd Amateur Argentine Tango Dance Competition

We warmly invite all tango-loving couples and enthusiastic beginners to take part in the 2nd Amateur Argentine Tango Dance Competition in Pécs!
This event is not about professional dancers—it is about you: everyone who discovered Argentine tango through love, curiosity, or simply as an exciting personal challenge.
It does not matter how long you have been dancing, how many figures you know, or how confident you feel on the dance floor. What matters most is your courage, the joy of dancing, and the experience you share with your partner.
Come and challenge yourselves in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, where applause and smiles are guaranteed—and where everyone who steps onto the dance floor is already a winner.
Perhaps you have only imagined entering a competition until now. This is your opportunity to turn that dream into reality. Register with your partner, step onto the dance floor, and let the music guide you!
Below you will find all the important information about registration, competition format, judging criteria, and prizes.
2nd Pécs Amateur Tango Dance Competition
Competition Rules and Conditions of Participation
The amateur tango dance competition, organised as part of the Pécs International Tango Celebration, aims to provide amateur Argentine tango couples with an opportunity to present their dancing in a friendly, supportive, and inspiring environment.
The competition is not exclusively a technical contest. It is also a celebration of the connection, musicality, presence, and individual expression that make Argentine tango so special.
Conditions of Participation
The competition is open to amateur Argentine tango couples who register in advance.
Registration becomes final once the entry fee has been paid. Payment of the entry fee will be possible after 21 August 2026.
Registration and payment deadline: 10 September 2026
Entry fee: HUF 10,000 per couple
Expected number of participants: 10–15 couples
The competition is open to both Hungarian and international amateur couples.
Competition Format
The competition will consist of two stages:
Semi-final
Final
Announcement of the results
The total running time of the competition programme will be approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes.
A concert and a fashion show will also take place between the competition rounds. These programme elements will provide the jury with sufficient time to complete their evaluations, make their decisions, and prepare the commemorative certificates.
Dance Format
Couples will dance in the traditional ronda format.
A maximum of 10 couples will dance on the floor at the same time.
Depending on the number of registered couples, the semi-final will be held in one or two rondas.
Each participating group will dance one ronda.
Each ronda will last approximately 12 minutes and will consist of three traditional tango tracks.
The music will be selected in advance by the organisers. The musical selection will not be announced to the competitors beforehand.
Judging Criteria
The jury will evaluate the couples according to the following criteria:
overall impression and presence
posture and technical confidence
quality of leading and following
connection and harmony between the partners
musical sensitivity and interpretation
use of space and respect for ronda etiquette
The jury's aim is to support the dancers' development and recognise individual expression.
The competition is intended to be friendly and motivating. Technical ability is not the only consideration: the spirit of tango, the connection between the partners, and the couple's relationship with the music will also play an important role in the evaluation.
